Chapter 1 · Lesson 10 of 21
Probationary passenger restrictions
3 min read · Obtaining a New Credential
Explanation
During the first 180 days, passengers generally require a qualifying licensed adult age 25 or older, a qualifying licensed spouse age 21 or older, or a driver-training instructor in the front passenger seat.
The driver may carry their child, stepchild, sibling, step- or half-sibling, or spouse without another accompanying individual.
Example
A new probationary driver may carry a half-sibling without another adult, but may not carry a friend unless a qualifying person is seated in front.
Common mistake
Treating every relative as an exception. Only the family relationships named by the manual qualify.
